Counselling and therapy for individuals in a safe and private non-judgemental space

About Me

Hello, I'm Ian,

I'm an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist and I work with men and women aged 18 and over.

I offer face to face counselling in private offices in both Northampton and Bedford. I can also offer counselling via telephone, or online via video using Zoom.

The length of the counselling is entirely flexible and can be short or longer term.

Many people come to see me as they are struggling with their normal everyday life. Anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, stress and lack of confidence are just some of the issues people talk about.

Maybe you are unhappy and aren't having the life you want; you feel stuck and don't know what to do. You want things to be better, but you need some support and guidance to make sense of it all. Having someone to really listen to you and support you think things through can really help.

How can counselling help you?

We all experience difficult times in our life. Events and situations become complicated and sometimes overwhelming. We can lose sight of who we are, what we want and why we do what we do. Life is challenging and sometimes we need some help.

Talking to a trained professional counsellor is an opportunity to talk to someone who can support you with those challenges. My role as a counsellor is to provide you with a space to think and talk about what is happening in your own way; to support you in making sense of what is happening in your world. To hear you and see you. To enable you to examine your past and present experiences to gain a better understanding of them. To think through those experiences with you and together we can create some fresh perspectives that will allow you to see them yourself and your world differently.

Counselling isn’t about providing you with solutions or advice. I will never tell you what to do. It is about empowering you so you figure out your own way and to be able to do that moving forward yourself.

My approach to therapy is psychodynamic counselling. This approach is a non-judgemental way of working that explores why we are who we are. It focusses in on our unconscious ways of thinking and behaving and considers how they are working for us today. We think deeply about the impacts of our inner thoughts and feelings and consider how changes can be made within to achieve our goals.

Speak in Confidence

Counselling takes place in a private and safe space where you will receive sensitivity and empathy. In my therapy space, you are encouraged to share your thoughts and feelings freely without judgement from me and in the safe knowledge that anything said is held in confidence.

A problem shared...

Trouble with a relationships; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression; unable to think or act - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to manage and withstand. Counselling gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Make better, healthier new choices

Working together I can support you to gain greater insight into the challenges you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier decisions moving forward.
